A little more behind-the-scenes: |
The Journey |
As a human rights advocate, I have been focused on social and cultural issues impacting diverse communities in the U.S. and abroad from a young age. Growing up, I had the opportunity to serve in a variety of philanthropic efforts which solidified my intrinsic commitment and dedication to improving communities.
With a background in film and theatre production, I transitioned to the cable industry with Fox Networks’ corporate office in Los Angeles, CA. My work at Fox extended from business & legal affairs, technical operations, marketing and distribution throughout the U.S. I later relocated to Florida as the Director of Affiliate Sales and Marketing, leading marketing and distribution efforts for Fox Networks in the Southeast Region, including the Caribbean. |
Leap of Faith |
Driven by a strong sense of social justice and a deeper calling to advocate for the most oppressed, I returned to higher education and completed my Master of Laws (LL.M.) with an International Law/Intercultural Human Rights focus from St. Thomas University College of Law in Miami, FL, graduating with honors as valedictorian. I also served as the Co-Editor in Chief of the St. Thomas University’s Intercultural Human Rights Law Review, an experience that would help catapult me into other endeavors.
While pursuing my studies, I also served as the Vice President and Chair of the Ignition Fund Board in Miami, FL, empowering technology-driven grassroots initiatives that disrupt human rights abuses and advance freedom and dignity worldwide. I collaborated with Code Red Films to promote and speak at screenings of the award winning documentary film "Untouchable: Children of God," which highlights the trafficking of young girls from Nepal into the brothels of India. Additionally, I remained an active member of the South Florida Trafficking Task Force and served on the Diocese of Orlando Human Trafficking Task Force. An edited version of my Doctoral thesis (J.S.D.) in Intercultural Human Rights, with an emphasis on human trafficking, culture, and law & policy, is now available. Current projects include researching initiatives focused on human trafficking and culture in various contexts, speaking and guest lecturing on human rights and the issue of human trafficking, translating for humanitarian efforts of NGO’s in Latin America and pre-production on a short documentary-film to help encourage further discussion and action on the subject of human trafficking and culture. I currently serve as Associated Expert at The John J. Brunetti Human Trafficking Academy at St. Thomas University College of Law and as a Fractional Manager for Quest2Freedom, an anti-human trafficking organization that addresses culture as part of their outreach and education efforts. A former gymnast, I am an avid sports fan and runner. I strongly support the arts and sports as valuable avenues for learning teamwork, dedication, goal-setting, communication and how to overall build better communities. |
